On Labour Day this year, we could not talk about labour rights. As they were living without the basic fundamental right of having a dignified life, they could not have the necessities that are needed to live.
As most of them were daily wage earners, living on what they earn daily. During the Pandemic, all they wanted was to reach their homes. They might not have a dignified life there, but they would have a roof over their head and something to eat. In this hope, many travelled hundreds, some thousands of km. In their journey, some never reached their destination. Many met with accidents across highways, railway tracks. The country needed the lockdown, but had it been more systematic, it wouldn't have been a long road for children and women to suffer alongside their lone earner.
